There are millions of people in the United States who are supplementing their income with part-time jobs. According to the 2022 Freelance Forward poll by Upwork, freelancing accounted for 39 percent of the American workforce in 2017 (60 million people) and generated $1.35 trillion in economic output.
It’s simpler than you think to make $500 in a week, whether you need it to cover unexpected expenses or start a savings fund. Everything is relative to your abilities, your needs, and the constraints of your timetable.
1. Leasing Out Rooms
How much room do you have available? Everything from a spare room to a garage to a driveway to a car to a single square foot of vacant floor space in the corner of your living room qualifies.
Space rental, whether on a short- or long-term basis, can generate respectable earnings. Tipalti, a provider of accounting software, reports that Airbnb hosts earn an annual median income of $44,235.
You may make money by renting out your extra space for storage using apps like Neighbor. You may advertise your units, screen prospective tenants, coordinate move-in dates, and receive direct deposits every month.
- House sitting
While the owner is away, the house sitter lives in the home and takes care of the property. You can housesit for friends and relatives, or you can advertise your services and fees on the internet.
House Sitters America states that their costs range from $25 to $150 per night, depending on the location and quality of care needed. If your service includes caring for a pet, you can usually set your rates higher.
- Dog Walking / Pet Sitting
Popular apps like Rover and Wag allow users to earn money by walking, sitting, or boarding pets. Your earnings are in direct proportion to the quality and quantity of the task you perform. Both Rover and Wag have a service fee, but you may supplement your income with tips. Rover advertises a $1,000 monthly income for dog walkers and sitters, but FinanceBuzz reports that dog boarders can double that amount.
Promoting your services through a local Facebook group or amongst friends and family can help you save money on service fees. Dog walker Ryan Stewart of New York City told CNBC Make It he made over $100,000 in a year working six hours a day, six days a week.
- Car Wrapping
Wrapping your automobile in ads is a quick and easy way to generate $500. In exchange for having an advertisement shown on your car, all you have to do is drive normally. At the conclusion of either a full or partial campaign, your vehicle’s wrap will be removed.
FinanceBuzz estimates that you can make $100-$500 monthly by renting out your car for advertising purposes. A spotless driving record is typically required for services, and your vehicle may need to be a certain age or look a certain way.
- Online English Instruction
Profit from your expertise by instructing others in the English language.
According to the International TEFL Academy, online English teachers can earn anywhere from $10 per hour to $40 per hour, depending on their experience and credentials. VIPKid, a frontrunner in the field of online English instruction, claims to pay their instructors between $14 and $22 per hour. You can increase your income by teaching additional hours per week. There is also no mandated minimum number of hours each week that you must work.
